Why I Dislike Resident Tuition Classes

Tuition classes have emerged as a contemporary trend among the students. This has also given rise to very expensive coaching and tutorial centres. The tutorial centres are stuffed with students, and soemtimes even tiny places are converted into classrooms. All these make the students prefer resident tuition classes. Here the tutors are called at the residence to take classes. There are numerous reasons to dislike resident tuition classes. Firstly, it deprives the student of valuable time needed to do extracurricular activities. Secondly, this also makes the student detest the classes conducted in school since s/he gets used to a personalized coaching. Thirdly, resident tuition classes develop the habit of getting spoon-fed. Last but not the least; this also prevents the student from having a desirable rapport with the teacher as they are constantly watched by their parents.

There is in fact lesser need to have resident tuition classes’ as online resources have replaced the resident tuition classes. These online resources can be accessed from anywhere, anytime. Here all sorts of study material are available such as NCERT solutions for class 12 maths, thus providing relief from resident tuition classes. Not only for school curriculum, resident tutors are also hired for various competitive exam such IITs etc. The Human Resource Ministry is monitoring this trend very keenly. The HRD minister, Smiriti Irani, while speaking at an event organized by Education Private Society for India (EPSFI), a body comprising of private deemed universities, said that her ministry would aim to resolve the various regulatory issues faced by these bodies and also expressed concern over commercialization of education.

To curb the menace of coaching and tutorial centre, the government has decided to dedicate in the forthcoming two months, an IIT-Pal portal and mobile app on which 50 years of IIT entrance examination papers will be available free of cost. The most striking feature of this would be that some of the IIT academicians and faculty members will give lectures through this app, so that students can have that additional learning.

The governments have taken various initiatives to substitute tuition classes by launching schemes and programmers. As mentioned on the website of Social and justice Ministry, a scheme for providing free coaching to students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) is being implemented since the 6th Five Year Plan. Similar schemes are also being implemented to provide free coaching to students belonging to other backward classes (OBCs) and minorities. With a view to ensure effective implementation and monitoring and to assist the students in a better manner, the separate coaching schemes for SCs, OBCs and Minorities were amalgamated and a combined Scheme, namely Coaching and Allied Assistance for Weaker Sections including Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and Minorities was introduced with effect from September, 2001.

The government has also made various efforts to provide tuition classes to minority section of our society. Apart from monetary relief, the age relaxation is also in the provision of the Scheme. There are many ways to get rid of the resident tuition classes’ in this modern smart world and choose a smarter alternative that is the onset of a new phase in the dissemination of learning.
